Painting a DIY color block arch accent wall is an inexpensive and easy way to transform your home on a budget! Since moving into my apartment, I have been staring at my white walls wondering what I could possible do that I would love for a long time. Then came this fun color block accent wall trend sweeping Pinterest and I knew I had to give it a try! I was hesitant because I have never painted anything in my life. Also, my contractor had recently re-painted my entire apartment so I didn’t want to destroy his work. After weeks of delaying, I decided to purchase this inexpensive 8 piece painting set from Home Depot on a whim and before I knew it I had completed the project. I choose to go with the color Web Gray from Sherwin Williams because the colors of my home are neutral and I had used this color to accent another part of my home. Best of all, I already had the paint from when the contractors painted my whole house. It was much easier than I expect and painting was actually fun! The color block arch accent wall makes a huge impact in my modern living room and I always get compliments from visitors.
There are many ways you can use this trend to transform a mundane room. You can paint a headboard behind your bed as a frame, paint DIY brushstrokes on an entire wall, or create a half painted wall or another geometric shape. Below you will find my video tutorial for painting a color block arch accent wall along with before/after photos.

Supplies:
- Paint- I used Web Gray by Sherwin Williams
- 8 piece painting set
- Painters Tape
- Tape Measure
- Thread
- Pencil
- Tarp
- Leveler
Directions:
- Using a pencil, measure + mark how wide you’d like your arch to be. As you can see, my arch was limited by light switches. If you are centering your arch on the wall, make sure your measurements are equidistant from the arch’s midpoint to the end of your wall in both directions. After figuring out the width of my arch, I used the measuring tape to make my vertical lines. Another option is to use a large leveler to mark your vertical lines. Connect both vertical lines at the top to create a rectangle. I recommend double checking, as these measurements are what you will base the whole project upon.
- To create the arch portion, you will need string that is half the length of the width and tie it to a pencil. Place a pin at the center top, allowing it to hold the string with pencil. Trace a half circle, creating the arch portion of your color block.
- Tape the lines using painters tape. For the arch portion, you will need to lay multiple small pieces of tape at angles to stay on the line of the arch. Don’t forget to tape the baseboard.
- Remember to remove any outlet covers and use painters tape over the electrical outlets and tarp your floor if needed.
- Time to paint! This painting set from Home Depot included everything I needed to get the job done including multiple rollers, a brush and tray. I recommend at least 2 coats and painting your outlet covers so they blend into your wall.
- Peel off the painters tape and you’re done!
