There are many ways to include your dog in your family’s festivities this Easter season!
Make a fun dog Easter basket with plush toys, or host an Easter egg hunt for your dog’s friends, or bake your four-legged friend Easter dog treats.
This homemade Peeps dog treat recipe is a play on the cute marshmallow Peeps we grew up with as children.
The vibrant colors are not only fun but also made with healthy ingredients to give your dog a boost of immunity.
Why This Peeps Dog Treat Recipe Is The Best Easter Dog Treat
Not only is this Peeps dog treat recipe a great way to include your dog in the Easter fun but they are also healthy!
These natural dog treats aren’t made with any artificial food coloring like many other Easter dog treat recipes. The vibrant colors come from natural human-grade ingredients; turmeric, Spirluna, and beet puree.
Benefits of Turmeric For Dogs
Turmeric is a spice with a bright golden color. It provides anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anti-cancer benefits to you and your furry friend.
In dogs, turmeric is commonly used for joint health. The anti-inflammatory properties of turmeric may reduce swelling and pain.
It’s important to note, plain turmeric isn’t absorbed well by dogs and should be mixed with fatty foods such as coconut oil or olive oil.
Benefits of Beets For Dogs
Beets are a powerhouse veggie that is just as beneficial for our four-legged best friends as us. They’re low in calories and high in nutrients, so you can give them to your dog without feeling guilty! Beets are rich in Vitamin B, including folic acid and Vitamin B12, Vitamin C, and folate (folic acid.)
Beet juice has antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties, keeping your dog’s heart healthy and boosting his immune system.
They’re also full of fiber, which helps with your dog’s digestion and maintaining a healthy weight.
Benefits of Spirluna For Dogs
Spirulina is a nutritional powerhouse packed with chlorophyll, anti-oxidants, fatty acids, and protein.
Many think Spirulina is a type of alga, but it’s actually a bacteria called cyanobacterium.
Spirulina can be used by you and your pets for a variety of purposes including immune support, reducing inflammation, and relieving allergies to name a few.
It’s important to purchase Spirluna and all your supplements from reputable companies that have strict standards.

Ingredients
Whole wheat flour- I recommend using light-colored flour so the colors are more vibrant.
Unsweetened AppleSauce- Use organic if possible with not added sugar.
Peanut butter- Use xylitol-free peanut butter when making recipes for your dog best friend. I recommend organic peanut butter from Trader Joe’s. Read more about dog-friendly peanut butter here.
Egg- The egg helps bind all the ingredients.
Turmeric- Find turmeric with other spices at your local grocery store.
Beet Puree- Boil or roast your beets to blend them into a puree. Alternatively, use canned beets.
Spirulina- purchase Spirulina from a reputable company

Spirulina can be harder to find, replace it with blueberries for the blue color.
Adding water to the turmeric and Spirulina before adding it to the dough will help the dog biscuit have an even color.
Make this Easter dog treat recipe grain-free by using coconut flour or oat flour in place of wheat flour.
Serving Size/How many dog treats should you give?
The serving size will depend on your dog’s weight, age, and the size of your Easter treats. I recommend half a small dog treat for smaller dogs and 1 dog treat for larger dogs to start.
As always, please check with your veterinarian before introducing new foods to your dog in case they have an allergic reaction or get an upset stomach.
